Loretta Lee

Loretta is a medical researcher making a career return to music education and performance.

Shortly after attaining her AMusA in piano under the tutelage of Kathryn Phillips, Loretta began teaching piano and music theory from her private studio in Kingsgrove (St George area) in 2002. While completing her medical science degree at the University of New South Wales, Loretta continued her studies in music and attained her AMusA in musicianship in 2005, under the guidance of Phillips’s mentor, Heather Silcock.

To further her training as a music teacher, Loretta commenced her Master’s degree in piano pedagogy in 2007 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music while completing a Master of Science degree at the University of Sydney. Due to conflicting schedules, she was unable to complete her studies in pedagogy despite achieving a high distinction average. However, Loretta continued to teach in her spare time at her Kingsgrove studio until she relocated to the Inner West in 2010.

Loretta has been lending her musical talents throughout the community for many years. As a member of the music ministry at the Our Lady of Fatima Kingsgrove Parish since 1996, she has performed at numerous weddings and requiem masses, participated in and arranged music for Christmas and Easter services, and has been a regular pianist and vocalist for regular weekend masses. In her earlier years, Loretta has performed at the St George Eisteddfod, Inner West Eisteddfod, McDonald’s Performing Arts Challenge, and was a finalist at the Sutherland Shire Youth Music Awards in 2001. Loretta continues to contribute to the St George Eisteddfod, working as a presenter and adjudicator’s assistant.

Loretta’s passion for the arts extends beyond piano performance. She is a member of the Adult’s Glee Club at All Age Music, and has received extensive training in classical ballet and Latin dance.

Loretta is in the final stages of completing her PhD at the University of Sydney, where her research aims to understand how dysregulation of the immune system contributes to the disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, for which there is no known cure.
